The Eye of Mares – Part 7

…It was mid-morning. The house was as silent as the surrounding forest. High above, the sun cast out its scorching rays, lighting up the world.

There was movement on the ground as a quartet of mischievous boys ran through the forest. All of them wore sleeveless brown tunics, and no leggings. They were tanned from the sun. The gang, between the ages of six and twelve, made a move for the treehouse.

“I’m not sure this is a good idea,” Avi, the youngest of the group remarked and brushed his long, dirty blond hair out of his eyes.

“Well, he is,” stated Thor, the eight-year-old. He grinned lopsidedly. “After all, he is a Child of Tormenta.”

“Grrr,” Damien snarled frustratedly.

Children of Tormenta were infants blessed with abilities, chosen by the Goddess Tormenta herself, who were put into a basket and set out to sea, taken by the currents until they reached the training Islands of the Watchers. Seven sacred islands, one of each resided in seven of the eleven realms. Islands designated to the elite race of Warriors known as the Watchers, the lone protectors…
